The previous post really got me thinking about engagement shoots and how I go about them or even choosing where to photograph them. There was a time that I photographed most of the engagement shoots in the same park. This park was large and offered a number of different areas that didn’t look the same so all the engagement couples looked as if they were in totally different places. Well, I got pretty bored with that and I began feeling that way. This really became a great disservice to my clients and myself. So I changed it up a bit.
I have been told that engagement shoots are great because it is a time that you two can get to know your photographer. Although this is true, I think that it is just a selling point so that you’ll sign the dotted line. Engagement photos, to me, are an opportunity for you two to have some really great photos of personality of the relationship before things get really complicated with life. My mom always told me, "No matter how long you have been with someone, the moment you get married it’s different." It’s true. Responsibilities and priorities change, not to mention what changes when children come along. Engagement photos give you an opportunity to have photos that tell about a chapter in your relationship when it all started.
